Lake Richmond is a Conservation Category Wetland that contains many biological values. It also provides recreational and educational values for the local community. Water quality management is an integral component of maintaining conservation values of the Reserve, particularly ecological communities which are dependent on the lake.

Hyd2o teamed with Ecoscape, were commissioned by the City of Rockingham to prepare an Integrated Catchment Management plan for the lake. Works undertaken by Hyd2o included identification of all stormwater subcatchments to the lake and how stormwater is treated within each of these areas. Based on existing land use, Hyd2o then determined likely and potential areas of high pollutant input, including nutrients. This analysis resulted in the prioritisation of areas to achieve maximum benefit in terms of water quality improvement for the lake.
